Iran exports $110mn saffron in 10 months

TEHRAN, Feb. 02 (MNA) – An official said Iran has exported more than 76 tons of saffron worth 110 million dollars in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (began March 21, 2015).

Deputy Head of Iran's Union of Sellers and Exporters of Saffron Gholamreza Miri noted that the amount of saffron exports has experienced a 35-percent fall compared to the same period last year due to the fluctuations in prices.

“If the volatility continues this way, we will be faced with a lack of demand for the product leading to stagnation while boosting exports requires stabilization of market conditions,” he emphasized.

Miri also referred to the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions asserting “currently, we are able to export saffron to countries like the US though the process was banned over the past years as a result of international sanctions.”
